Resuming Visits to LTC Homes (EN) September 2 2020

Hello Everyone, March 28, 2020

We cannot thank all our members working the frontline in health care enough! As a local and a community, we are so grateful for your continued dedication to serving the long-term care residents of Macassa and Wentworth Lodges. We appreciate each and every classification as we know you all contribute to the wellbeing of our most vulnerable community members.

We wanted to reach out with a communication to ensure you are aware of information and supports available to you.

Long term care homes are governed by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care in province of Ontario.

The Province of Ontario has declared a state of emergency Tuesday March 17th.

The provincial Emergency Management Act defines an emergency as “a situation or an impending situation k constitutes a danger of major proportions that could result in serious harm to persons or substantial damage to property and that is caused by the forces of nature, a disease or other health risk, an accident or an act whether intentional or otherwise.”

According to the act, a state of emergency can only last up to 14 days. If necessary, the province’s lieutenant governor can extend it by another 14 days, before the initial state of emergency is terminated.

On March 23, 2020 the Province of Ontario declared a further another order for regarding Long Term Care. This will be in effect for 14 days and can be extended to 28 days.

This allows order the employer to supersede the parts of the Collective Agreement specifically Redeployment, reassignment, scheduling, use of contractors and volunteers and also it includes canceling vacation as well as any other pre-approved leave.

We have attached a copy of the order for your review.

We understand these are stressful and challenging times for everyone.
