Cheers To Solidarity

No one goes on strike because they want to. They do it because lousy, greedy employers force them out. That’s what happened to the Steelworkers who work for Crown Metal Packaging in Toronto.

This multinational corporation attempted to destroy their union and take their jobs away from them. They hired replacement workers – scabs – and they concocted  a list of employees they attempted to bar from their jobs.

These brave workers fought back. It was a David-and-Goliath-like struggle between a company worth billions preying on 120 Steelworkers.

Thanks to allies and supporters like you, these workers had the support they needed to stand firm in their fight for fairness.

They voted to accept an agreement that guarantees the rights of all striking employees to return to their jobs. It also includes enhanced retirement and severance provisions for employees who decide not to return to the plant.

The agreement is not nearly what these courageous workers deserve. They put everything on the line to go on strike. But these men and women can return to work with their heads held high. They are going back shoulder-to-shoulder, with their union, jobs and their principles intact.

Please help spread the word that the strike is over and we can all drink cans again!!!!
